There are two masks that I love. One is, again, by Josh Rosebrook — it’s the Cacao Antioxidant mask — and the other is the Kaeng Raeng Cleansing Clay Detoxifying Charcoal Face Mask. They’re the kind that make you look like you’re ready for Halloween, but you feel like something is actually happening with them on.
I very, very rarely put makeup on if I’m not working. But if I’m going out to dinner, like I am tonight, I’ll put some on. Ecco Bella has a really good concealer for under the eyes. I don’t use allover foundation. I eat really clean, and you can see it in the skin, but sometimes you need a little concealer to cover dots here and there.
Josie Maran makes a nice powder. For blush, I use Gabriel or Tata Harper. Also, 100% Pure has a nice peach blush that I might use on top of a cream blush to seal it in. There’s a company called One Over One that has a nice blush situation, too.
For my eye shadows, I have only a few. They’re mostly by 100% Pure and W3ll People. Whole Foods has tons of this stuff — that’s the good news. I’ve tried quite a few natural mascaras, but at this particular moment, I’m into the Pacifica Stellar Gaze one. I learned about it from the makeup artist when I was shooting “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.” There are two eyeliners I’m excited about. One is by W3ll People, and the other is by this cool company called Maison Jacynthe.
Getting my best hair is like playing Russian roulette. Basically, I wash my hair and sleep on it. Some days it works, and some days I have really freaky bad hair. For shampoo and conditioner, I’ve been using Giovanni for so many years. I love the 50/50 Balanced and the Root 66. They smell really good and work well, too.
Most perfumes are made with chemicals, and I rarely wear them. But I’m friends with Christian Siriano, and he gave me a bottle of his. It’s so delicious. Occasionally I wear that one. The other naughty one I sometimes spray on is Stella McCartney.
Also, when I was in living in New York for a play, I went to this place around the corner called Soapology. You can make your own little perfume oils. I did one with gardenia, mandarin and vanilla, and it was so good. That’s the one I usually use.
Sometimes I like to go to foot massage places — I like We Care spa — where you can just drop in. I find it hard to schedule a massage, but I was doing “Lip Sync Battle,” and I hurt my leg. I was doing serious moves, and my leg got so jammed up, so I got a massage. Trish Dean fixes everything, but is not fluffy. She get in there and takes things apart.
Diet and Fitness
My diet is the same as it’s been for a long time. I follow the Kind diet and wrote a book about it. It’s definitely plant based, but there’s so much more to it. It’s about not eating things out of a blender. It’s about eating foods that nourish you. It’s made a huge difference in my life.
I’m always trying to create a fitness regimen. The exercise part is so important for strength and feeling aligned. I’ve noticed that I don’t get massages as much after I started exercising properly. I realized I didn’t have any butt muscles. That’s why my knees were hurting.
So I go to Pilates — it’s like physical therapy. I found a really good place called Winsor Choza Pilates on Beverly Boulevard. I take the classes there.
I also like going to boot camp. I’m a big fan of classes — they get me motivated. I’m that person who can find every way of talking myself out of exercising.
